How do I know if my child is gifted?

Gifted students possess to an outstanding degree a demonstrated ability or potential in one or more of the following areas :

• General intelligence
• Specific academic areas
• Visual and performing arts
• Psychomotor ability
• Leadership
• Creative thinking
• Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills

Has your child been psychologically tested? You could have your child tested by a private psychologist or DECS guidance officer

If yes, you should have a report that states how your child performed and this should give an indication of your child’s IQ

Results from National Competitions (ie NSW Maths Competition) High Distinction, Distinction or Prizes may be indicators of giftedness
